Portals To New Worlds
Take a trip down the Golden Pathway and discover a world of possibility. Featuring a German design dating to 1568, our Golden Pathway series suggests an ornately engraved door or magical gateway. German art in the 16th century was strongly influenced by the Northern Renaissance happening throughout Europe at the time. With an emphasis on exuberant gold decoration, this design is emblematic of the era’s artistic expressiveness.
Originally crafted from beechwood and dark brown leather, this stylized cover once contained Jeremiah Schweiglinum’s Handbook of the Lord’s Supper. It was produced at the Berg & Neuber printing house in Nuremberg, Germany, which was especially notable for its female director, Katharina Gerlachin. Today the binding can be found at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf. Though the original book has been nearly destroyed over the centuries, we have endeavoured to restore it to its original glory in red and gold.
