Garnet
Our Silver Filigree Collection celebrates the splendour of ornamental bindings decorated with filigree metalwork. To achieve the gilded and polished motifs on these book covers, a base layer of silver sheets was first die cut, and elaborate grooves were then meticulously etched into the surface.
This long-time favourite series reproduces two unique original bindings. The first, currently featured on our Blush Pink and Maya Blue designs, was produced in Strasbourg to house a 1697 edition of Johann Arndt’s Paradiesgärtlein. The second, featured on our Aubergine covers and this new Garnet notebook, originally housed a book of hymns and was crafted in Swabia in the early 1800s. At that time, Empire-style, as seen in this design, was the leading style in European decorative arts. The grandeur of the cover’s ornament reflects the period’s idealization of Imperial Rome and Ancient Egypt.
