The crane was sacred to the Celts. Manannan Mac Lir, the Irish god of the sea, had a magical bag made from the skin of a crane (his lover transformed). There are many Irish legends of women transformed into cranes by rivals. The underworld god Midir owned three cranes that guarded his home, so cranes may have a connection to death and also protection.

Cotton paper is superior in both strength and durability to wood pulp-based paper. Modern gel ink pens are an ideal match for cotton fibre paper. Cotton fibre paper has been known to last hundreds of years without appreciable fading, discolouration or deterioration. An ideal rustic journal that could last for generations.
