Front and back covers feature coiled gold snakes in each outside corner and a gold snake on a silver and gold slab running down the side. Four silver fingers on spine. Gold claw with silver nails on back forms part of hinged clasp - Celtic knotwork domino on side, Egyptian-bead style oval on front set with blue glass. Oval on clasp encircles blue glass eye, hand made using a technique to reflect available light. The book is sewn in French style with two reinforcing ribbons and spinal insert. Special blue headbands. Black satin tasselled bookmark. Deep blue elephant hide endpapers.
