The Fleur-de-Lis is a stylized iris (in French, fleur means flower, and lis means lily) used as a decorative design or symbol, especially in heraldry. It became a royal French heraldic emblem in the 12th century but can be traced back as far as King Clovis in 493. The Fleur de Lis is often used to denote a French heritage. It has been said that the three petals signify light, perfection and life.

In Scouts, the fleur-de-lis symbol is from the compass rose, representing the outdoors and wilderness. It also "points in the right direction", signifying that Scouting gives one's life direction. The symbol was chosen by Sir Robert Baden-Powell as it had been the arm-badge of those soldiers qualified as "Scouts" (reconnaissance specialists) when he served in the British Army.

Cotton paper is superior in both strength and durability to wood pulp-based paper. Modern gel ink pens are an ideal match for cotton fibre paper. Cotton fibre paper has been known to last hundreds of years without appreciable fading, discolouration, or deterioration. An ideal rustic journal that could last for generations.
