Front and back covers feature coiled gold snakes in each outside corner and a gold snake on a silver and gold slab running down the side. Four silver fingers on spine. Gold claw with silver nails on back forms part of hinged clasp - Celtic knotwork domino on side, Egyptian-bead style oval on front set with blue glass. Oval on clasp encircles blue glass eye, hand made using a technique to reflect available light. The book is sewn in French style with two reinforcing ribbons and spinal insert.
